The chromatic shift: from the rural spirit of orange to the elegance of white-and-blue
In the 1960s, the visual metamorphosis of Lamborghini tractors marked a true change of era, moving from the historic, exuberant orange livery — a symbol of post-war energy and the farming origins of iconic models such as the early Carioca and the DL series — to the refined, unmistakable white-and-blue combination. This change of dress was not a mere aesthetic choice but a deliberate manifesto of modernity: the bright white hood set on the deep blue frame gave the machines an almost automotive elegance, setting them clearly apart from any competitor in the fields. With the debut of the celebrated R Series models (such as the R 230, R 340 and R 480), the white-and-blue pairing became the hallmark of a golden age, in which the power of air-cooled engines and the pursuit of operator comfort turned the tractor from a mere tool of toil into a genuine object of prestige and technological innovation.
The blue “flags” on the hood signalled liquid cooling, distinguishing these models from their air-cooled cousins.
Note — The period from 1958 to 1966 represents the golden age and peak expansion for Ferruccio Lamborghini as a tractor maker. This era is defined by the triumph of the orange-and-blue livery and the introduction of the celebrated FL-series engines (air-cooled), built directly in Pieve di Cento.
Production and Historical Models
The Pieve di Cento plant was the beating heart of Lamborghini Trattori until the early 1970s. This historic facility produced the agricultural machinery that marked the evolution of Italian mechanization: the DL and R/D Series: the pillars of the very first production. They symbolize the postwar agricultural revival and the consecration of the Lamborghini brand.
R 6110 DT (6-Cylinder Prototype)
The famous prototype of the first Lamborghini tractor powered by a six-cylinder engine. Presented at the Salon International de la Mécanisation Agricole in Paris in 1970, it was exhibited the following year at the Verona Agricultural Fair and shown in action during a historic demonstration in Pieve di Cento. Only three prototypes were built (two with two-wheel drive and one with four-wheel drive); the DT version is the only surviving version of this model that never reached the assembly line.

The archive in numbers
The end of an era
With the sale to the SAME group in 1973, the era of Lamborghini tractors built in Pieve di Cento came to a close. The Lamborghini Trattori brand still exists today, but those pioneering years remain inseparably tied to the Dome, the silent witness of a great industrial adventure.
